Former NBA Player and Coach Avery Johnson came back to his alma mater, Southern University, for a special ceremony.

On Saturday, Feb. 2, the basketball court was named in Avery's honor during halftime at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

Johnson, along with his wife Cassandra who is also an alumnus,  were presented gifts by Chancellor James Llorens and his wife, Glenda. Johnson's number 15 jersey was also unveiled.

Johnson was joined by his former teammates Darrell Battles and Carlos Sample and his former Coach Ben Jobe.

"Southern University I want you to remember you're champions," Johnson said.  "When you wear that blue and gold you are champions. Don't you ever forget it."

Johnson played basketball at Southern in the 80s.
