EBR South Photo Gallery | Famed Poet Nikki Giovanni speaks at the Manship

Famed Poet Nikki Giovanni was the guest speaker at the Manship Theatre on Wednesday, Jan. 25.  The event was part of LSU's Martin Luther King and Black History Month celebration.

Giovanni spoke on a number of topics from politics to diversity to relationships and general life lessons.

"If you only go where somebody wants you to go, you will not go anywhere."

"I don't mind making mistakes. If you don't make mistakes, you're not doing anything."

"You can't say I'll do it  tomorrow. You have to do what you have to do now."

:"If you only do what you're asked to do in the words of Stevie Wonder you've done nothing."

"They ask  why have diversity? Because you can't possibly know everything so you ask somebody."

The event was sponsored by the office of Multicultural Affairs. After reading some poems, Giovanni met with students, staff and attendeed during a private reception.
