BRCC gears up to face division rival Delgado Community College

Baton Rouge, LA– On Wednesday, Feb.6, BRCC will host division rival Delgado Community College (DCC) for a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader.

The women tip-off the afternoon at 6 p.m., with the men’s game starting twenty-five minutes after the conclusion of the women’s game.

The Lady Bears enter the game with an overall record of 13-8; their 3-2 record in conference play puts that in the driver’s seat in the Miss/Lou Conference race with 7 games remaining.

Wednesday’s game will be a rematch of the Jan. 19 game where the Lady Bears won 53-42 at DCC.

The Men’s team is 10-13 overall, but are 6-1 since returning to action following the Winter Break.  The hot start has given them a 3-1 conference record and they too, sit atop the Miss/Lou Conference and control their own destiny.

The men beat DCC 86-56 on Jan. 19. Wednesday’s matchup is the 2nd of 3 meetings between the two teams this season.

The campus community is really excited about this game.

Coach Odums: "We're about to go on a journey"

Saying "we're about to go on a journey," Dawson Odums officially accepted his new job title as the 20th head football coach at Southern University during a news conference on campus Tuesday morning.

"This is not really about me," Coach Odums said.  "We're about go to on a journey that will take all of us. All of you play a part in it also. We want everybody to be a part of this journey so let's get Southern University back to what we once knew it was."

Odums was named the interim head coach in September after Coach Stump Mitchell was fired. He was one of two leading candidates for the job. Odoms led Southern to a 4-5 record this season. His hiring was unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors Friday, Dec. 14.

"I'm making no predictions," Odums says.  "I'm just a hardworking country boy."

He said he would focus on recuiting players from the state because when Southern was winning many of the players came from Louisiana.
