Time running out to claim Citizens rebate money

Just days left to apply for your share of more than $250 miIlion in insurance rebates stemming from hurricane Katrina.

The rebates are available through the Citizens Insurance Rebate Program.  That is the state-run insurer of last resrot that will write a policy when a tratdtional insurance company will not.  After Katrina, the state borrowed billions of dollars to pay out Citizen's claims.  The rebates come in because Citizens collected more that it  needed to pay those claims.  Now that money gets refunced back to you.

Community Invited to Holiday Open House; Old Governor’s Mansion to Host Mr. and Mrs. Claus

The Foundation for Historical Louisiana (FHL) will sponsor a community open house during the holiday festivities planned in downtown Baton Rouge in early December. The public is invited to visit the Old Governor's Mansion at 502 North Boulevard for a free Holiday Open House on Friday, December 3, from 5 to 9 p.m. A donation of canned goods for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank will be collected at the event.

The landmark mansion will be decorated for the holidays through underwriting by LUBA Workers Compensation. Of special interest to parents and grandparents will be a visit from the Mansion's own Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Children may relay their wishes and have a color photo taken with Mr. and Mrs. Claus against the back drop of the East Room fireplace for a cost of $10. The photos will be printed and families may pick them up within minutes.

In addition, small children are invited to take a ride on the "Mansion Snowball Express" for an excursion to Galvez Plaza, which will be a pick up and drop off point for mansion visitors. Children are encouraged to come in their pajamas!

The Medical District Workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center Auditorium located at 6400 Perkins Road.

"We are moving into a very busy phase of the FUTUREBR planning process, with many more opportunities for the community to give us input on how they would like to see East Baton Rouge Parish look in the next 20 years," said Mayor-President Melvin "Kip" Holden.  "These workshops are being held throughout the parish to help us develop models, with citizen input, for future development."

The workshops will be conducted by national planning consultant John Fregonese, who is leading the FUTUREBR planning process.
