BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB)- Children in East Baton Rouge Parish, Ascension Parish and the Recovery School District will be headed back to class Wednesday to start a new school year.
A new school year means new faces in the classroom and one at the top for the EBR School System in the form of a new superintendent.
School buses will be rolling early, so school zones will be in effect throughout the area.
It's a school year already called historic because of major reforms passed in the recent legislative session.
Those changes sparked big opposition among some teachers, but Louisiana Superintendent of Education John White is asking them to put the politics aside and focus on students.
White spoke at the annual convocation for the Zachary Community School System. Zachary is losing Superintendent Warren Drake, who is headed to work in White's office in the state Department of Education.
Students in Zachary head to class Thursday morning, along with Baker and Livingston Parish.
