BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB)- Detectives
are investigating an apparent shootout that left one man dead and the other
wounded late Tuesday night.

The
shooting happened on Ned Avenue near Port Drive in the Gardere area of Baton
Rouge around 11:15 p.m.

The East
Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said Jermaine Vallery, 22, died after
exchanging gunfire with another man.

Deputies
said both men were taken to the hospital, where Vallery later died.

The name of
the other man was not released.

Investigators
said they haven't determined why the two men were shooting at each other.

Deputies
blocked off several streets in the area as they pieced together just what
happened.

One
neighbor said he was shocked to hear shots outside his home.

"So,
we were inside and I was playing video games," said Tommie Williams.
"I heard four or five shots and went outside and the police were already
out there."

The
shooting remains under investigation.
