Program will honor 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing victim | Events

The Baton Rouge Chapter of Jack and Jill will host "Carole Robertson Day" at Polk Elementary School to educate students about the civil rights activist.
The program will be held at Polk Elementary, 408 East Polk Street, in Baton Rouge on Friday, Sept. 28, at 11:15 a.m.
Robertson who was a member of the teen group of Jack and Jill in Birmingham, Alabama was killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing there on Sept. 15, 1963. She was getting ready to march with other youth for civil rights.
The following year at its national convention, the organization decided that every September the local chapters would pay tribute to Robertson.
The program will begin at 11:15 with a presentation. Gifts will be presented to the students and the school library.
The program is being hosted by Associates Cherryl Matthews, Principal at Polk; Thomasine Mencer; and Gloria Whiten.
