Longtime McKinley High, Junior High band director passes away | Events

Longtime McKinely High School and McKinley Junior High band director Robert “Bob” Johnson has passed away.

He was 90 years old, according to his niece Beverly Carter. Johnson died on Friday, Aug. 10.

Johnson worked as a band director and music teacher in the East Baton Rouge Parish School system for more than 40 years.

“He loved music,” Carter says.  “Music was his life.”

Harry Jackson, a former student, says “he was a very strict person. He didn’t accept no for an answer.”

Funeral arrangements will be held Friday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. at Hall and Davis Funeral  Service,  9348 Scenic Highway, in Baton Rouge., according to his niece.
