Townhall meeting will focus on how to stop the violence

The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and the Working Interfaith Network (WIN) will come together on February 24  to host the most important city-wide dialogue to date on youth homicide and violence. The event: Lives In The Balance: A Community Speaks Out Against Violence comes on the heels of a rash of homicides that have challenged law enforcement, religious and political leaders, and the wider community for answers. NOBLE and WIN (and WIN’s parent organization PICO - People Improving Community Through Organizing) intend this event to signal a new collaboration of law enforcement and the faith community, joining forces in Baton Rouge and around the country, to tackle the challenge of making our streets safer and saving lives.

The program will be held at 6 p.m. at the Baton Rouge Marriott, 5500 Hilton Drive.

Officials recognizing Amber Alert anniversary

Officials recognizing Amber Alert anniversary

Every year, the nation pauses to remember Amber Hagerman, the namesake of the national Amber Alert program.  Amber was abducted and murdered on Jan. 13, 1996. Since the origination of the national initiative, moe than 550 children have been successfully recovered as a direct result of the Amber Alert.

Louisiana has one recognized statewide Amber plan that is coordinated and administered by the Louisiana State Police. It is a statewide, collaborative effort between law enforcement and broadcasters focused on safely locating an abducted child within the critical two to three hour period following abduction.  It is an investigative tool which supplements law enforcement efforts to locate an abducted child whose life is in immediate danger.   Since the inception of the Louisiana Amber Alert Plan in October 2002, there have been only twelve activations.  In all cases, the children were successfully recovered.

Apple phishing scam

There are reports of a widespread phishing scam requesting AppleID information, suggesting the recipient’s AppleID will expire unless the user clicks on a link in the email, and updates billing information. There doesn’t appear to be anything particularly sophisticated about this scam, except that the email manages to avoid grammatical errors and has a somewhat legit-seeming “Apple look” to it. Also,  the web page the spurious link takes you to reportedly looks quite legitimate. (Web page not shown here.)

IT professionals suggest you do not click on the link. If you get it, just delete it.
