City-parish officials will kick off a series of meetings on the federally mandated Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) project and Green Light Plan for road improvements at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at the Independence Park Recreation Center at 7505 Independence Blvd.

Mayor Melvin “Kip” Holden, Public Works Director William Daniel and his staff, and the program managers of the SSO program and Green Light Plan will be on hand to give progress reports on the two programs, and to discuss individual projects.

“We are also looking for citizen input in the event we have issues that are unknown to us,” Daniel said.  “People will be able to ask questions or lodge complaints, and the program managers will have their complaint resolution people at the meetings as well.”

Funded by monthly sewer fees and a half-cent sales tax dedicated to sewer system repairs and operations,  the SSO program includes 108 projects, including 22 completed projects, 48 that are under construction and 38 that are in design.

The Green Light Plan is a comprehensive road improvement program authorized by East Baton Rouge Parish voters by extending an existing parish-wide half-cent sales tax for roads until 2030.  To date, 26 Green Light Plan projects have been completed and another six are under construction.
