Time running out to claim Citizens rebate money | Business
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Just days left to apply for your share of more than $250 miIlion in insurance rebates stemming from hurricane Katrina.
The rebates are available through the Citizens Insurance Rebate Program. That is the state-run insurer of last resrot that will write a policy when a tratdtional insurance company will not. After Katrina, the state borrowed billions of dollars to pay out Citizen's claims. The rebates come in because Citizens collected more that it needed to pay those claims. Now that money gets refunced back to you.
Commissioner of Insurance, Jim Donelon says there is approximately $268 million dollars in rebates for the years 2007 through 2011.
In order to get any of the rebate money, you will have to fill out the paperwork by Saturday. Any unclaimed funds go back to the state's general fund Jan.1. For more information on the rebate program and how to apply, click here.
