Area youth will participate in Lemonade Day’s “Best Tasting Lemonade” contest at the Mall of Louisiana today, April 28 at 4 p.m. The event, which kicks-off South Louisiana Lemonade Day festivities, will be judged by local media personalities.
The contest is open to youth of all ages and it’s not too late to join the fun! Contest participants must be registered for Lemonade Day. They can go online at http://southlouisiana.lemonadeday.org/ or at the tasting contest this afternoon. Contestants should bring one quart of their lemonade to the event. Local media personalities will select the best tasting lemonade and the winner will receive free Raising Cane's for a year valued at $350. Judges include Alabama Anna of New Country 100.7, Jay Ducote of BiteandBooze.com, Rachel Frost of WBRZ and Rachael Upton of 225Dine.
During the event, children can sign up for Lemonade Day and receive a special backpack filled with an entrepreneur workbook and other materials that will guide them through the process of developing their lemonade stand.
Lemonade Day is a FREE, community-wide, educational initiative designed to teach children how to start, own and operate their own business – a lemonade stand. Kids of all ages learn to set goals, develop a plan, secure an investor, create a product, make a profit and give back to their community. To sign up, visit www.southlouisianalemonadeday.org. After registering online, participants can bring their email confirmation to any area Raising Cane’s restaurant to receive a free backpack.
Local community partners include Big Buddy Program, BREC, Junior Achievement, Junior League of Baton Rouge, LSU Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, Louisiana Business and Technology Center and LSU Innovation Park. Teacher lesson plans and worksheets are available at www.lemonadeday.org. For more information or to register a class or large group, contact Julie Perrault at julieperrault@raisingcanes.com.
